1 August: Saint Alphonsus Liguori, passionate defender of Marian devotion. Author of ‘The Glories of Mary,’ he reminds us of the importance of trusting prayer to the Mother of God.
5 August: Dedication of St Mary Major in Rome, the first Marian basilica in the West. It celebrates the divine motherhood of Mary, true Queen of Heaven.
6 August: The Transfiguration of the Lord, a feast of light that invites us to contemplate the divine glory into which Mary was raised.
15 August: Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the central feast of the month, when we celebrate her ascension to Heaven in body and soul. It foreshadows our own heavenly destiny.
22 August: Feast of Mary Queen, which recognises the heavenly kingship of the one who said ‘yes’ to the divine plan.

O Mary, Mother of God,
in this sweet month of August, a time of rest and light,

You who said ‘yes’ unconditionally to the call of the Most High,
