The basilica of Lourdes undergoing renovation

Curious  to know what was happening at the Shrines, we took our pilgrim's staff and set off as close as possible to the Basilica of Lourdes.

When we arrived, the pilgrims visiting Lourdes were as curious as we were to know why such scaffolding was around the Basilica of Lourdes.

So we went to meet the staff of the Shrines to ask them what work was being done! And so it is the bell tower of the Basilica that is being renovated! The Sanctuaries took advantage of the winter break to carry out this major work and to ensure the smooth running of the beautiful sound of the bell tower during masses and pilgrimages.

Built between 1862 and 1871 following the request of the Virgin Mary to Saint Bernadette on March 2, 1858, this magnificent Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is almost a century and a half old! In order to preserve its beauty and its condition to welcome all the pilgrims of Lourdes, the Sanctuaries regularly carry out renovation or maintenance work.

We will of course follow the renovation of the bell tower closely and are already looking forward to the removal of the scaffolding so that we can once again admire our beautiful Basilica of Lourdes.
