What is a holy water font?
A holy water font is a receptacle made to hold holy water. In Catholic churches it is placed at the entrance: the faithful dip their fingers and make the sign of the cross as they enter, in memory of their baptism. At home, the domestic font takes up this gesture and carries the prayer of the church into the household.
What water do you put in a holy water font?
A font is filled with holy water, that is, water blessed by a priest. You can bring some back from a church, ask for it to be blessed, or use Lourdes water, which many of the faithful keep at home. Remember to renew the water regularly and to keep the font clean.
