Saint Carlo Acutis

Carlo Acutis has been a saint since 7 September 2025

The canonisation of Carlo Acutis took place on 7 September 2025 in Saint Peter's Square and was celebrated by Pope Leo XIV. Pier Giorgio Frassati was canonised during the same Mass. The event strengthened an already widespread devotion to Carlo among young Catholics and those who see his life as a contemporary example of Christian faith.

What miracle was associated with Carlo Acutis' canonisation?

The miracle recognised by the Church in 2024 concerned Valeria, a young Costa Rican woman who suffered a severe head injury after falling from her bicycle in Florence in July 2022. Her mother travelled to Assisi to pray at Carlo Acutis' tomb and ask for his intercession. Valeria's rapid recovery was subsequently examined as part of Carlo's cause for canonisation.

The recognition of this miracle opened the way for Carlo Acutis to be canonised. A medal, statue or devotional image of the saint can accompany an intention entrusted to his intercession and keep his example present during prayer.

A devotion with particular meaning for young Catholics

Carlo Acutis' young age and the way he lived his faith in circumstances familiar to modern teenagers help explain his strong appeal among younger Catholics. An image or representation of Carlo can therefore find a natural place in a bedroom or prayer space, or be given to a young person at an important stage of Christian life.
