Believers mark this day by reciting the Rosary, a Catholic prayer that consists of repeating prayers to Mary, following a number of meditations on the mysteries of Jesus' life. In some churches, processions, masses and songs may be organised to celebrate this occasion. Pilgrimages may also be organised to holy places such as the shrine of Our Lady of Pompei in Italy, which is a popular place of pilgrimage for believers celebrating the feast of the Holy Rosary.

Prayer to the Holy Rosary

O Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we pray to you through the intercession of your son Jesus, and in memory of your apparitions at Fatima, that you may grant us the grace to pray the Rosary with a pure and sincere heart.

May each Hail Mary we recite be an offering of love to your Son, and an invitation to follow his example of compassion and mercy.

Help us to remember all the mysteries of Jesus' life, and to contemplate the depth of his love for us.

May we be more attentive to the needs of others, and more willing to serve them with love, as Jesus did.

O Queen of the Rosary, pray for us, and help us to experience peace and joy in our hearts as we live out the teachings of your son Jesus.

Amen.
