Saint Lawrence: a Christian deacon and martyr

Who is Saint Lawrence?

His story

St Lawrence was a 3rd century Christian deacon who is known to have been martyred for his faith in Jesus Christ. He served as a deacon in Rome and was a courageous witness for the truth of the Christian faith. St Lawrence was subjected to cruel torture and burned on a grill. Despite this, he maintained his witness and his faith to the end. He has become a symbol of courage and devotion to the faith for Christians throughout the world and is often referred to as "St Lawrence the Martyr". 

His significance

St. Lawrence is considered the patron saint of cooks, archivists and electricians because of his martyrdom on a cooking grill. He is also associated with protection against famine and fire.
