Born in 1831 in Alençon, France, Zélie married Louis Martin and together they had nine children, including Thérèse. Zélie was a woman devoted to her family and her faith, and dedicated her life to raising her children in the love of God. She died of an illness at the age of 45. In 2015 she was canonised by Pope Francis and is now considered a role model for mothers and families everywhere.
